CANIDEX began with an idea.
An idea that handlers, newcomers, breeders, judges and everyone who carries the dog world has always felt in their bones: what we know about our dogs deserves a permanent home – complete, reliable and open to everyone who needs it.
The idea
A universe – not just for one breed.
There is plenty of software for the dog world. Yet most of it loses sight of what really matters: what lies at the heart of this software is data – the story of every single dog.
The Vizsla database shows how it can be done. It is an idea that became reality: carried by a community, a true fellowship and many dedicated helpers, a whole universe was created for one breed.
And that is exactly where the questions begin from which CANIDEX was born: Why only one breed? Why only pedigrees? Why only fragments of data?
Why CANIDEX exists
A dog’s life is short. Its traces should not be.
In just a few years, a dog shapes us more than numbers can express – and its genes live on for generations. What it achieves in its lifetime is remarkable. Yet far too much of it is lost today.
Outdated
Many clubs try to digitise their data and fail because of systems that cannot grow with them. Technically speaking: they do not scale.
Lost
Some dogs travel the world as puppies. At every border – a country, a club or a change of owner – fragments of their genetic and performance data are left behind. Usually for good: looking back, they no longer count, and at best the future has to collect them all over again.

- Data in the right handsEvery record has a responsible body. Breeders and owners propose, the club, federation or laboratory reviews – only then does an entry become official.

CANIDEX has set out to prevent exactly this loss. The development of our loyal companions should not only be transparent but recorded permanently – fully traceable, at any point in time.
Achievements should no longer seep away into the depths or gather dust on desks. They belong in the dog’s record – and thus in the knowledge on which tomorrow’s breeding is built.
Because the more complete the data, the better we can make predictions about the future of the animals and their breeds: for healthier matings, well-founded breeding decisions and a dog world that learns from its history.
The challenge
The success of this mission depends on you.
The idea is clear: we do what others fail at. But what does success depend on? On you. Yes, you – or your club, your federation, your organisation.
Over its lifetime, a dog is examined, assessed, tested and classified by many different bodies – perhaps even by you. This is exactly the data the system needs to get better. Without verified, valid data and without the cooperation of many, this undertaking cannot be achieved. That is our challenge.
That is why we give you authority over the data you manage – and the tools to maintain it, verify it and bring transparency to your everyday work.
